Hand-painted and researched map tracing the political life and territorial context of Eleanor of Aquitaine (Alienora ducissa Aquitaniae)—Duchess of Aquitaine, Queen of France, Queen of England, and later political prisoner during the Angevin dynastic conflicts.

The map situates Eleanor within the shifting feudal structures of twelfth-century Western Europe. Through marriage first to Louis VII of France and later to Henry II of England, her inheritance became central to the formation of the Angevin dominion. That composite polity stretched from Aquitaine in the south to England and the Lordship of Ireland, with influence extending into Scotland and contested regions such as Toulouse.

The Capetian monarchy, though territorially constrained during Eleanor’s lifetime, appears as the long-term beneficiary of Angevin overextension. The political geography reflects layered sovereignty, feudal allegiance, and dynastic inheritance rather than later national identities.

The map is written primarily in Medieval Latin, with English explanatory notes in Carolingian minuscule. At the bottom, a poem in Old French references Eleanor’s cultural milieu and the courtly traditions associated with Aquitaine.

High-quality giclée print available in multiple sizes. The printed version preserves greater clarity and detail than compressed online images.

This map was researched and hand-painted by a trained historical cartographer with academic experience in European and global history.
