Handpainted and researched map of the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine, including her time as Duchess of Aquitaine, Queen of France, Queen of England, and prisoner. In the dynastic struggles of the high Middle Ages, the Plantagenets - based in Anjou but without a true capital city - have come to dominate much of Western Europe. Their rule stretches from Aquitaine in the South all the way to the Lordship of Ireland and garrisons in Scotland to the North. The County of Toulouse remains contested, although claimed by Henry II, it is effectively independent. The Capetians in Paris, meanwhile, will struggle to regain much of their lost territory in the coming decades. The map is in Medieval Latin with brief explanations written in Carolingian minuscule in English. At the bottom is a poem in Old French on Eleanor.
