Hand-painted and historically researched map depicting the Ottoman Empire at its territorial zenith in the late seventeenth century, rendered entirely in Ottoman Turkish written in Arabic script. The map reflects how the empire represented itself administratively and culturally, using the written language of the court rather than modern transliterations or later nationalist conventions.

The composition is framed by Ottoman miniature paintings and the tughra of Sultan Mehmed IV, all carefully reproduced from seventeenth-century or earlier originals. The accompanying calligraphic elements include Persian poetry, reflecting the multilingual literary culture of the Ottoman elite, in which Ottoman Turkish, Persian, and Arabic coexisted as languages of power, administration, and art.

At this moment, the Ottoman Empire reached its greatest territorial extent, stretching across Southeast Europe, Anatolia, the Levant, North Africa, and Mesopotamia. The map captures the empire just before a major historical inflection point: the failed siege of Vienna in 1683 and the subsequent Treaty of Karlowitz (1699), which marked the beginning of sustained territorial contraction in Europe.
