The map is framed by the flags and heraldry of Italy’s regions, as well as the Italian tricolore and the flag of Vatican City. Geographic names, seas, and cities are written entirely in Italian.

This piece was painted by hand in watercolor and ink and completed over the course of roughly one week, focusing on clarity, balance, and the visual coherence of Italy’s regional diversity. While the photographs shown here are compressed for online viewing, the original artwork contains finer brushwork, texture, and detail that are best appreciated in print.
