This hand-painted cartographic study explores the geography and cultural landscape of the Kitsap Peninsula within Puget Sound, Washington.

The composition situates the peninsula within its surrounding waterways while acknowledging Indigenous presence in the region through the inclusion of local tribal lands. The vertical borders reproduce two contemporary totem poles carved by Frank Smith of the Makah Tribe.

  • The totem pole on the right references the work installed in Port Orchard.

  • The totem pole on the left references the pole installed in Bremerton, commissioned by Kenneth Hills of the Chukchansi Tribe.

These elements are included as painted reproductions to situate the map within the living artistic traditions of the Pacific Northwest Coast rather than treating Indigenous culture as an abstract decorative motif.

Rendered in ink and watercolor, the piece balances geographic accuracy with interpretive design. Coastlines and waterways are emphasized to reflect the maritime character of the region, while the aged parchment field evokes archival cartography.

This work was researched and drafted manually before painting. It is not digitally generated. Each label, shoreline, and territorial reference was deliberately placed.

Ideal for:

  • Residents of the Puget Sound region

  • Collectors of Pacific Northwest art

  • Scholars and students of regional history

  • Those with personal or ancestral ties to Kitsap County

High-quality giclée print available in multiple sizes. The printed version preserves greater clarity and detail than compressed online images.

This map was researched and hand-painted by a trained historical cartographer with academic experience in European and global history. Each CartographyCraft map is designed to prioritize historical accuracy, visual clarity, and period-appropriate aesthetics over modern anachronism.
